Nontoxic Lip Balm Shea Butter Recipe (Only 2 Ingredients)

This lip balm shea butter recipe uses only two ingredients and is a nontoxic alternative to conventional chapsticks. Ready in an hour, there’s no reason to buy store bought lip balm again.

Ingredients

Equipment

  • Small Sauce Pan
  • Glass Bowl
  • Container of some kind - I repurpose small containers I already have.

Method

  1. Add water to a small sauce pan and bring to a boil.
  2. Make a double boiler by placing a glass bowl over the sauce pan.
  3. Add the shea butter and olive oil to the glass bowl and stir until completely combined.
  4. Remove from the heat and add any essential oils to the melted mixture.
  5. Carefully pour the mixture into your lip balm container.
  6. Allow the mixture to firm up for a few hours. After it’s firm (it takes about 1 hour), you can begin using it!

Notes

Does homemade lip balm expire?

Olive oil can become rancid (it will smell bad) if it’s repeatedly exposed to moisture so I’d recommend using the lip balm within one year.
