Simple Thyme Syrup For Coughs And Colds

Three simple ingredients are combined to make this healthy thyme syrup for treating coughs and colds. It also makes a simple and delicious addition to your favourite drink.

Ingredients
  

  • 10 sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3/4 cups of honey - raw and local if possible

Method
 

  1. Rinse the thyme.
  2. Combine the thyme and water in a saucepan over low heat. You do not need to remove the leaves from the stems.
  3. Simmer the thyme for 20 minutes.
  4. Strain off and compost the thyme.
  5. Once the liquid is warm but not very hot, add the honey. This is especially important if you are using raw honey, to avoid killing off the good bacteria in the honey.
  6. Mix until the honey is dissolved.
  7. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4 weeks.
