Simple Lavender Beeswax Salve Recipe

This beeswax salve recipe is simple to make at home and is a wonderful homemade herbal gift. Beeswax, lavender, and a few other natural ingredients are combined to make a moisturising and calming salve.

Ingredients

Equipment

  • Double boiler – or make your own by using a glass bowl over a small saucepan.
  • Glass Storage Container - I like these amber glass salve jars
  • Small Strainer

Method

  1. To make this beeswax salve recipe, first add the sunflower oil and
lavender buds to your glass storage container. Then add the glass
container to a small saucepan and add water.
  2. Bring to a low boil and simmer for 20 minutes to infuse the oil. Then turn off the heat and allow the oil to cool.
  3. Strain off the oil.
  4. Add it back to the storage container and into the small sauce pan. Then add the beeswax and shea butter to the glass container.
  5. Simmer the mixture on low heat until everything is melted and combined.
  6. Turn off the heat and remove the glass jar from the sauce pan. If you’re using a separate salve container, pour the liquid into the container.
  7. Allow the salve to harden completely and then it’s ready to use. It’s best to store the salve in a cool, dark place. It should last for several years.

Notes

There are many oils you can use as a base but some of my favourites that are not overly greasy are jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, and argon oil.
