Benefits of chamomile-infused oil

Soothes irritated or sensitive skin – Chamomile contains compounds like bisabolol and chamazulene, which have strong anti-inflammatory properties that help calm redness, rashes, and skin irritations.

Helps to ease muscle tension and cramps – Chamomile has antispasmodic qualities, which can help with menstrual cramps and tight muscles when used in massage oils or salves.

High in antioxidants – Chamomile has properties that can fight free radicals. This can help to protect your skin from environmental damage and promote healthier skin over time.

How to make DIY chamomile oil

What you’ll need

Dried chamomile flowers (look for certified organic chamomile flowers if you can find them) – Here’s a bulk, organic source.

A carrier oil like jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, or organic olive oil

A clean glass jar – I use these

Small dropper bottle for storage – I like these

A coffee filter or cheesecloth – Here is a source for extra large unbleached cheesecloth

A dark place or cool place to let the oil infuse

Optional: Add a few drops of essential oils like lavender essential oil or rosehip seed oil for extra nourishment.

Instructions

Fill your jar halfway with dried chamomile flowers.

Pour in your carrier oil until the flowers are completely covered and there’s about an inch of oil above them.

Seal the jar and shake gently.

Store the jar in a sunny spot for 2–3 weeks. Shake gently every few days.

Once infused, strain the oil using a coffee filter or cheesecloth into a clean jar or bottle.

Store in a dark place to preserve shelf life and quality.

How to use your chamomile infused oil

  • As a gentle body oil after showering
  • In homemade skincare products
  • Mixed into massage oils
  • As a base in diy chamomile salves
  • As a soothing balm for itchy skin or skin issues

It’s great for external use only.

A few tips

  • Always store your oil in a cool place to extend its shelf life
  • Look out for signs of spoilage like off smells or air bubbles
  • Use a small 2 oz bottle with a dropper for easy application
