Calendula is a beautiful golden flower that is well-known for, among other things, its skin and wound healing properties.
Calendula oil and calendula salves specifically can be useful for healing minor burns, cuts, bites, and irritation. They also act as powerful antifungals, and can be useful in naturally treating diaper rash, eczema, or other minor skin ailments.
This means that this lip balm is great for lips, but can also be used all over your body, to help heal any skin irritation or issues you may have.

To make calendula lip balm, you need calendula oil. You can find this online, but you can also make your own. It’s simple to make at home and very economical.
How Do You Make Calendula Oil?
You only need two ingredients: dried calendula flowers and a carrier oil, such as jojoba oil, fractionated coconut oil, high quality extra virgin olive oil, etc.
Fill a glass container about ¾ of the way full with dried calendula flower heads. Then pour your carrier oil overtop the flowers until they are completely covered. Cover the jar and leave it for about a month in a sunny, warm spot.
Finally, simply strain the mixture off and store in a sealed container. It’s best to store it away from direct sunlight. It should last between 1-2 years. (Check out Our Gabled Home has a great tutorial for making your own DIY Calendula Oil.)
Our calendula flowers aren’t quite ready yet and so for this calendula lip balm recipe I will use store-bought calendula oil. You can find great options online. Just make sure to look for products with high quality carrier oils (such as jojoba oil).
